Japanese operator eAccess will commercially launch a mixed mode solution for WCDMA and LTE, beginning March 2012. The operator will use the same radio frequency band for LTE as WCDMA services with the help of Ericsson’s mixed mode solution.
Ericsson will equip Tokyo, Tokai, Osaka and other metropolitan areas in Japan with LTE, providing eAccess with full network rollout and network optimisation and consulting. It will also upgrade the packet core network.
Jan Signell, president of Ericsson Japan, said: “As mobile broadband is enabling the networked society, this is yet another important step toward realising Ericsson's vision. Ericsson’s LTE technology and experience will allow us to take a smarter approach to addressing the complexity that comes with the exponential growth in data exchange.”
eAccess said the new technology will not only make it easier to adjust frequency allocation but also offer customers a superior user experience. GTB
