BT has announced a contract with Genband to provide equipment for its global IP interconnect system for wholesale fixed and mobile operator customers in the UK and worldwide. In addition to supporting UK and global network access, this solution will support global interconnect and IDD.
The operator will use session border controllers, converged media gateways and gateway controllers providing access to the switched phone network while ensuring secure IP interconnects and enabling transcoding. The system connects with NetNumber’s Titan centralised route choosing system to apply policies to ensure route quality and profitability.
Trevor Wyatt, BT director of strategic voice platforms, said: “BT’s enhanced global IP interconnect service will enable other networks, including fixed-line operators, mobile-network operators, VoIP providers and other operators worldwide to interconnect with BT and transport global voice traffic seamlessly.”
Pablo Gargiulo, Genband’s president of global sales, said: “The integrated Genband solution being deployed offers BT an enhanced global IP exchange solution that reduces overall cost while improving the customer experience for fixed and mobile carriers worldwide.” GTB
