Tesco to launch as MVNO in Hungary

Supermarket chain Tesco will launch a mobile telecommunications service in Hungary using Vodafone’s network, according to local reports. After introducing the service in Slovakia, Ireland and the UK, Tesco will launch the service in Hungary on 1 March, reported MTI, citing Tesco Hungary CEO Gerry Gray. Tesco Mobile’s Hungarian operation is 50-50 owned by Tesco and Vodafone, and its business strategy mainly targets the retailer’s customer base.
Vodafone Hungary president Gyorgy Beck said the service would cover only pre-paid packages at first. Tesco Mobile CEO Peter Reszketo told Dow Jones Newswires that the venture eventually plans to offer post-pay and all possible mobile telecommunications services. GTB
