STC seeks partner after Saudi regulator CITC announces plans to issue three MVNO licences in 2012

Saudi Arabian operator STC is seeking a partner to offer services over its wireless network, and would like to enter into such a deal with a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), reported Reuters, citing group chief executive for strategic operations, Saad al-Qahtani.
The move is timed to coincide with plans by Saudi Arabia’s Communications and Information Technology Commission to issue three licences to MVNOs in 2012.
Qahtani expects a reduction in termination fees, which have remained flat for around four years. A price war between operators Zain Saudi and Etihad Etisalat (Mobily) in 2011 hit Saudi Arabia’s domestic call margins. GTB
