The UAE may allow new telecommunications firms to operate in the country by 2015, according to local reports.
This move is part of efforts to ensure fair competition and provide enhanced services to customers, and supports the aim to make the telecommunications sector a “secure electronic space”, reported Emirates 24/7, citing Majid Sultan Al Mismar, deputy director of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority.
Al Mismar said TRA was evaluating plans to open up UAE’s telecommunications sector by allowing new service providers to operate by 2015, based on the requirements of the market as well as subscribers.
At present, the only two operators in UAE are Etisalat and Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company, which operates as Du. GTB
