Hrvatski Telekom has unveiled Croatia’s first commercial 4G LTE network, with base stations at Osijek, Rijeka, Split and Zagreb, eventually aiming to expand coverage to other urban regions.
Božidar Poldrugac, management board member and chief technical and chief information officer at HT, said: “By implementing the mobile network LTE in combination with the improvements in the fixed line data rates, we have confirmed one more time our leading position on the market.”
The Croatian operator — which is controlled by Deutsche Telekom — will use the network to offer customers access to advanced multimedia content at up to ten times higher data transfer rates.
Poldrugac said: “LTE, as one of the innovative technologies of today is a part of our strategy and it will soon become a standard in mobile communications, especially if we consider the fact that the volume of data traffic in mobile networks will rise more by more than 60% in the next couple of years.”
HT held a live presentation of the 4G test network in 2010, and customers in Rijeka, Split and Zagreb trialled the technology in 2011. GTB
