Telkom Kenya is enhancing its telecommunications services with the Lower Indian Ocean Network (Lion2) undersea cable due to go live on April 14.
Mickael Ghossein, CEO of Telkom Kenya, told the Business Daily Africa that the cable will provide an alternative route for operators using the other three cables — EASSy, TEAMS and Seacom.
France Telecom — which owns a 51% stake in Telkom Kenya — built the new 3,000-kilometre cable to Nyali, Mombasa via the island of Mayotte for $73 million.
Ghossein told the Business Daily Africa: “The cable is going live mid next month and we are targeting operators currently connected to the other cables but looking for [an] affordable redundancy route to [the] Middle East.”
Telkom Kenya will be able to lease broadband internet to service providers after it completes the landing station in Mombasa, said the report. GTB
