Singapore mobile operator StarHub has awarded a contract to Nokia Siemens Networks for its LTE network across the country. NSN will provide its Single RAN platform, which will enable StarHub to re-use 1800 megahertz GSM spectrum to offer nationwide LTE service.
Neil Montefiore, StarHub CEO, said: “We are constantly looking at ways to provide our subscribers the greatest mobile broadband experience, and Nokia Siemens Networks has the best solutions for it.”
NSN will monitor StarHub’s LTE and GSM networks using its network management system and will also offer support services. The first stage of LTE network will be launched in Marina Bay, Shenton Way, Suntec and Changi Airport by the end of 2012.
Montefiore added: “With the launch of LTE, we will be able to increase our data capacity and offer improved speeds. We have also been looking to modernise our GSM network for some time and with the Nokia Siemens Networks Single RAN platform we’ll be able to do that efficiently while building the LTE network.” GTB
