Deutsche Telekom may be considering selling its Dutch and UK units in 2013, according to unconfirmed reports.
The company was assessing a potential sale of the units earlier, but decided to give the local managements time to enhance the units’ performance and results, reports Financial Times Deutschland, citing company sources. However, Deutsche Telekom is now planning to look into the sale option again, as part of efforts to preserve its dividend and reinvest in the US, and will review the performance of the units at its next annual strategic meeting, said the report.
A Deutsche Telekom spokesman declined to comment on the report. Earlier reports have suggested Deutsche Telekom is considering exiting the UK by selling its share in Everything Everywhere, its 50-50 joint venture with France Telecom, but only after focusing on improving the venture’s operational performance.
