Qualcomm set to receive Indian spectrum for TD-LTE services after delays due to dispute with government

Qualcomm may receive its broadband wireless access spectrum in India as soon as this month, after long government delays.
A government official told the Press Trust of India, a news agency, that “there is just a process that has to be followed internally” and that “I think anytime now, it should be completed.”
Qualcomm won spectrum to offer high speed data services in four regions of India in a government auction in June 2010, for about $1 billion. But the award of spectrum was delayed because the same government department objected to a separate set of applications for necessary internet service provider licences. A telecommunications tribunal later ruled in favour of Qualcomm.
Avneesh Agrawal, India president and South Asia senior vice president at Qualcomm told the Press Trust of India: “We have the licence but the spectrum is yet to be allocated. We are eagerly waiting for the spectrum.”
Qualcomm plans to offer services through two joint venture companies, in which it has a 74% stake in each, but is expected to sell its interest after the LTE network is in operation. GTB
