Ericsson to boost South Korean operator SK Telecom’s LTE network through joint venture with LG Electronics

Ericsson will extend the LTE network of South Korean operator SK Telecom, thereby helping it meet rapidly-growing demand, and enabling the provision of enhanced latency as well as user experience.
Ericsson said its local joint venture LG-Ericsson will undertake the LTE network extension, which is due to complete within the first half of 2012.
Martin Wiktorin, president and CEO of LG-Ericsson, said that the company will provide the network as well as support services including engineering, design, deployment and support services. “The LTE radio access network will make use of Ericsson's operation support system for radio and core and RBS 6000 base stations,” he added.
The deal will facilitate the commercial launch of LTE services in key cities such as Busan and Daegu.
SK Telecom’s priorities include delivering high-quality services and meeting user expectations, and the operator believes in putting in constant efforts to improve these aspects.
Wiktorin said: “As a result of this expansion, SK Telecom will be able to offer its users broader network coverage and an enhanced mobile-broadband experience, ensuring continued loyalty among its customers and continued market leadership.”
SK Telecom had over a million LTE subscribers at the end of January, and expects six million by the end of 2012. GTB
