Qualcomm will bring in an Indian operator for a 26% in its Indian 4G venture, equally held by Tulip Telecom and GTL Group, reported local media.
According to Business Standard, an Indian newspaper, discussions between Qualcomm and Bharti Airtel are in final stages for the partnership. It is anticipated that the talks will be completed by the time Qualcomm receives 4G spectrum. Sources told Business Standard that Qualcomm anticipates starting the services within six months.
Sources also added that Qualcomm wants to assist operators in introducing 4G services instead of operating the services. Bharti Airtel would be able to expand its BWA footprint to eight districts with the stake in Qualcomm. The US telecom vendor has decided not to invest in the venture anymore, and is prepared for a slow reduction in its stake in the venture in the next phase. GTB
