Deutsche Telekom is planning to merge US mobile operator MetroPCS with its unit T-Mobile USA, reported Bloomberg citing people close to the development.
Sources told Bloomberg that the deal may see Deutsche Telekom preparing for a stock-swap deal in order to have a control of the new unit that will be publicly listed. This development comes as the operator is evaluating options to strengthen business as it is losing customers to competitors such as Verizon Wireless.
Deutsche Telekom failed in a bid in late 2011 to sell T-Mobile USA to AT&T Mobility, thanks largely to opposition from rival operators Verizon Wireless and Sprint. Both Deutsche Telekom and MetroPCS declined to comment to Bloomberg. GTB
