Saudi Telecom has awarded a contract to Huawei to upgrade its next-generation metro networks in the country. Under the deal, Huawei will supply new metro wavelength division multiplexing products and services that will help it to build ultra-bandwidth metro networks.
Wu Weitao, Huawei’s general manager in Saudi Arabia, said: “Bringing new technologies to market within the kingdom, we look forward to working with STC on this endeavour as a means for developing more efficient, environmentally-friendly ICT systems.”
By deploying network vendor’s WDM products, STC will be able to use photonic integrated device technology that will allow it to save on power usage and space of its network operations.
Khaled Al-Dharrab, STC’s transport network director, said: “The PID technology helps us construct advanced metro WDM networks, provide multi-granularity services quickly and easily, and serve our customers more agilely.” GTB
