Airtel Rwanda will invest $100 million to boost its operations in the next three years by bringing direct and indirect job opportunities within its network. The operator will also bring in partners such as Ericsson and IBM for setting up and managing facilities in the country.
Manoj Kohli, Bharti Airtel’s chief executive international and joint MD, said: “Our strategy for Rwanda is in harmony with the government’s vision to make telecommunications a priority. We plan to work closely with the government to provide access to affordable telecoms products and services across the country.”
The operator also aims to launch 3G services in Kigali in the forthcoming quarter. In addition to this, Airtel will launch Airtel Money, its mobile commerce platform in the country. The Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Agency awarded a licence Airtel in late 2011 in order to operate both 2G and 3G GSM services. GTB
