Thailand’s True Mobile group said it will go ahead with its 3G network expansion plans in spite of the presence of legal threats and uncertainty, local media has reported.
Thailand’s information and communication technology ministry has claimed there are irregularities in a 3G network deal with rival operator CAT Telecom. True has to set up 13,500 3G base stations by the end of 2012 as part of the deal.
True’s managing director Adhiruth Thothaveesansuk told the Bangkok Post: “If CAT asks us to change conditions in the event of a default on the contracts, a negotiation will be set up to seek a compromise. But if we fail to reach a compromise after deliberations, True will have no choice but to seek a final resolution from the courts before making any changes. We have to comply with all the requirements in the contracts. We are open to any solution, even if CAT wants to buy back the deal from True.”
Adhiruth accepted that True Mobile’s 3G network expansion plan might not go ahead as planned in the second half of 2012 if CAT denies asking the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission’s approval for importing 3G equipment.
Adhiruth added: “If we cannot get an import permit in time, True will fail to achieve its target of 4 million subscribers this year.” GTB
