Chinese operator to build presence in Latin America from new base in São Paulo after winning Brazilian licence

China Telecom has expanded its presence in Latin America by establishing two subsidiaries in São Paulo, Brazil. The Brazilian government granted a multimedia communications service licence to the company in September 2011.
China Telecom is working with an affiliate, China Communications Services. China Telecom will provide IP access and other services and plans to open an internet data centre and a cloud computing service.
China Communications Services do Brazil will offer business outsourcing services, telecommunication infrastructure and applications, content and other IT outsourcing services. Xiaoyi Liu, China ComService’s executive VP, said: “In the course of providing supreme services in Brazil, China ComService would accumulate experience in improving and strengthening its service in Latin America.”
Donald Tan, China Telecom Americas’ president, said: “We are committed to the development of Brazil market, which will be established as a hub of our Latin America operations that are expanding continuously. China Telecom do Brazil will also partner with the local Brazilian and Latin American telecoms operators to extend our coverage of networks and services.” GTB
