Columbus International has agreed to buy competitor TeleBarbados, which owns and operates a fibre telecoms network in Barbados. The transaction is part of the acquisition of the shares of Antilles Crossing Holding Company (St. Lucia) and Antilles Crossing (Barbados) IBC from Caribbean Fibre Holdings.

Brendan Paddick, Columbus’ chief executive officer, said: "The acquisition of TeleBarbados marks a significant milestone in Columbus' entry into the Barbados telecom marketplace. Columbus plans to invest heavily in Barbados over the next 24 to 36 months to offer consumers the full triple play of broadband internet, digital landline telephone and advanced internet protocol based video services under the brand name FLOW. In addition, Columbus will be launching a series of corporate data, connectivity and IT services under the brand Columbus Business Solutions."

The transaction also includes the purchase of Wamco Technology Group and Tele-St. Lucia, which owns licences to provide similar telecommunication services across St. Lucia.

Paddick added: “We welcome TeleBarbados' 60 talented professionals to the Columbus team and we look forward to serving its loyal customers for many years to come." GTB
