Thailand’s state-owned operator TOT and China Telecom have agreed to construct two international internet land links in which AT&T will have a role, reported local media. Japan’s NTT DoCoMo may join the project, said a report.
One link will run from Thailand to Laos, China and Russia, while the second one will connect Thailand with Cambodia and Vietnam, reported the Bangkok Post. TOT will be responsible for constructing a gateway connection in Nong Khai, while Shanghai Symphony Telecom, a joint venture of China Telecom and AT&T, will be responsible for the Laos gateway.
TOT’s chairman Panthep Chamrasromran said the plan will relieve internet traffic congestion on the main international link run by CAT Telecom, which connects Thailand to Malaysia and Singapore, added Bangkok Post. The planned gateways could be deployed to route traffic northward, while balancing the load on the CAT submarine gateway.
Panthep said that Japanese mobile phone operator, NTT DoCoMo, has shown interest in joining the project. GTB
