ZTE is planning to launch a TD-LTE smartphone by end of 2012, with an aim to create higher-end smartphones to improve margins, reported Reuters. The Chinese vendor is also in discussion with Japanese operator Softbank for a potential contract.
Scott Wang, ZTE’s vice president, told Reuters in an interview at the GSM Association’s Mobile Asia conference in Shanghai: “Now is a very crucial stage for the development of LTE. We plan to roll out our TD handsets by the end of this year.”
ZTE has previously said it aims to more than double its worldwide smartphone sales in 2012 versus 15 million sold last year. GTB
