The international arm of Netherlands operator KPN and equipment vendor Huawei have announced what they are calling the first pan-European 400G field trial, over a 540 kilometre optical link between Amsterdam in the Netherlands and the German city of Düsseldorf.
The 400G transmission took place over KPN’s pan-European WDM backbone network. The trial proves the results attained from laboratory tests and confirms that the transmission method used is a promising method. The high-speed transport industry is paying increasing attention to the technology beyond today’s maximum speed of 100 gigabits a second.
Huawei executive Jack Wang said: “Huawei has always taken a customer-centric approach to our R&D efforts. We are pleased to cooperate with top international carriers like KPN International, because that helps us design products suitable to customer needs and clarify the evolving trend of the next-generation transport network.” GTB
