Norway incumbent Telenor is considering a collaboration with Tata Teleservices to provide mobile phone services in India, local media has reported. Business Today, citing people familiar with the development, said the two operators have conducted initial discussions; however, a final decision will only be taken after the government releases the norms for the upcoming spectrum auctions.
Telenor may either buy the 26% stake in Tata Teleservices held by NTT DoCoMo or merge the assets of its Indian unit, Unitech Wireless, with that of the Indian telecoms provider.
India’s Supreme Court had ordered the cancellation of 122 telecom licences issued in 2008, including 22 licences of Uninor, a joint venture between Telenor and real-estate company Unitech. GTB
