SK Telecom said it is in discussions with Vodafone to further develop its technology, local media reported. The Korea Times said that the London-based telecoms company is primarily targeting SK Telecom’s Smart Push technology.

An SK Telecom executive told the Korea Times: “Collaboration with Vodafone will be strengthened as it has keen interest in using the SK technology amid the migration into data-intensive long-term evolution (LTE).”

One of SK Telecom’s “PETA”-dubbed solutions, the Smart Push technology allows easy usage of social networking services or messengers and also assists in the large amount of data traffic on web-connected devices.

SK Telecom is collaborating with Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) for the Smart Push technology. SK Telecom is providing the solution under the partnership, while NSN will be responsible for overseas sales.

Paris-based SFR is also examining SK’s LTE solutions before entering into a partnership with the Seoul-based operator.

“We have signed various non-binding memorandum of understanding with top overseas carriers. One inspiring signal is that they want to learn from our experiences and know-how in managing LTE services,” an SK Telecom spokesman told the Korea Times.

South Korea’s top three LTE service providers, SK Telecom, LG Uplus and KT are investing heavily in LTE networks in order to offset the stalling growth in the domestic market.

Senior Vodafone officials met with SK Telecom officials in Seoul in February this year and tentatively settled to form a partnership in LTE services, added the Korea Times. GTB
