Hibernia Atlantic unit takes over MediaConnect business from TeliaSonera International Carrier

Submarine cable company Hibernia Atlantic has acquired the MediaConnect business of TeliaSonera International Carrier in Europe and the US.
The former TeliaSonera network will be merged into Hibernia Media, a specialist video distribution arm of Hibernia Atlantic. The TeliaSonera network doubles the size of Hibernia Media’s access in Europe.
Erik Hallberg, president of TeliaSonera International Carrier, said: “With more than five years of investments into the TeliaSonera International Carrier media business combined with Hibernia Media’s extensive fibre system the new entity will provide greater reach and a broader set of highly managed network services uniquely capable of leveraging transport infrastructure to create global media solutions.”
Under the deal, TeliaSonera will still provide backbone connectivity and other services between points of presence in the combined media network, while Hibernia Media now becomes the customer-facing body and manages customer relationships.
Hibernia Atlantic’s CEO, Bjarni Thorvardarson, said: “The combination of our on-net media PoPs and venues in the US with this added reach to a broader market throughout Europe gives both of our customers extraordinary access to content origination, aggregation and distribution channels over a robust fibre backbone.”
Hibernia Atlantic is a transatlantic submarine communications cable system in the North Atlantic Ocean which connects Canada, the US, Ireland, the UK and Europe. GTB
