VoLTE gets big boost in Indian market with the launch of cheap phone from Samsung

Samsung has launched a $90 smartphone with voice over LTE (VoLTE) on the Indian market.

The Samsung Z4, which will cost 5,790 rupees when it goes on the market on Friday, is believed to be one of the cheapest 4G phones with VoLTE yet launched anywhere in the world.

Asim Warsi, senior vice president of Samsung India Electronics, said: “With more than 500 million feature phone users, India has immense potential for smartphone upgrade.”

The move is likely to increase yet further the level of competition in India, where Reliance Jio launched its 4G-only network last year at rates that undercut many other operators.

“As the market leader, we at Samsung consider it our priority to facilitate this journey towards smartphones,” said Warsi.
