Nunzio Mirtillo has been appointed as head of Ericsson India along with a number of other countries under his charge, taking over from his predecessor Paolo Colella who was promoted to head of digital services for Europe and Latin America.

Specifically Mirtillo will now drive Ericsson’s business in India, Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Philippines and Bangladesh.

The restructure comes in line with the announcement made by Ericsson in March of this year to streamline their portfolio of services along with their top management structure. Changes include: removing a layer from its top management structure, reducing its ten current geographical locations to five market areas and moving from four business units to three business areas.

The development also follows the year-on-year decline of Ericsson India Q1 revenues of 2017. New entrants to the market such as Reliance Jio are being looked at as the potential causes for this decline. Jio’s free voice and data offers have sparked a price war, resulting in sharp declines in profitability and a round of consolidation.

However, Ericsson are set to benefit from the data boom which sees telcos expanding the 4G network and deepen their 3G coverage.
