Company wins deal from MessageBird to provide fast data for number portability

London data analytics specialist TMT Analysis is claiming a response time of only 5ms for mobile number portability queries.

The service accesses numbering data from a variety of sources globally, making it available to customers via its data centres in Europe and North America.

John Wilkinson, former Interoute and Xconnect executive who is now vice president of sales and marketing at TMT Analysis, said: “We can make data available, such as: ‘Is this phone where it says it is?’ We can tell whether a phone is cloned. Number portability throws a spanner in the works. If you’re not careful A2P apps don’t convert very well.”

CEO Fergal Parkinson said: “The messaging, telecoms and security industries are demanding rapid and reliable access to number portability information. That is exactly what we are able to provide.”

The service, called Velocity, is used by MessageBird to route messages and calls, he added. MessageBird’s head of strategic partnerships, Kenneth Drenthe, said: “We need to ensure we have access to fast and consistently reliable number portability look-up services.”

Operators and application-to-person (A2P) providers such as banks and taxi companies need number information to ensure SMS and other messages get through.
